Base Camp is down

“We have a very bright future ahead of us as we go forward.” – Radhi Spear, DTM International President 2024 – 2025

Base Camp is down

Today is the first day of the Base Camp outage. An email was sent from Toastmasters International on September 6th entitled ‘A Base Camp outage is happening soon.’ This outage is due to the transition to the new system that will be rolling out. The outage should last from October 9 – October 25. During this outage, your profile and educational details will be migrated to the new platform. Continue to speak, give your speeches and move through your levels. Make sure you are keeping track so you can update your education progress once the system is back online. For education programs and pathways content updates, you can review this FAQ.

Incentives + Bookstore Bucks!

The Incentives page and Club Bookstore Bucks tracker are on the D50 website. District 50 clubs can earn bookstore bucks to help pay for club materials and needs as well as help pay for events like Fall Fusion and the Spring Conference. These incentives are designed to inspire and foster club growth, community, accountability, and learning! How do you redeem your Club Bookstore Bucks? Follow these 4 steps. Bookstore Bucks from the 2023 – 2024 Toastmasters year, will expire 12/31/24.

Confirm your clubs Bookstore Bucks amount via the Bookstore Bucks Tracker.
Review the Bookstore Bucks page to confirm items eligible for reimbursement.
Once you have made your purchase for club related items (Amazon, Toastmasters International, D50 event) complete the voucher reimbursement form.
Send the completed voucher form with a copy of your detailed receipt to finance@d50tm.org and the District will reimburse you by writing and sending a check to the address listed on the voucher reimbursement form.

17 DAYS UNTIL FALL FUSION!

Can you believe that Fall Fusion is in the air? Join your District 50 family on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Collin College Frisco Campus where you will enjoy a full day of growth, learning, and fun for all of our District 50 Toastmasters members! With three educational tracks, there is something for everyone!

Harvesting Creativity
Fall into Successful Contests, and
Leadership & Communication Fusion

The day will begin with DeAdrian Maddox, delivering a keynote message, followed by nine engaging sessions, networking opportunities in the Fusion Networking Café, and our Vendor Showcase. Be sure to check out the Mock Contest, hosted by Tyler Evening Toastmasters, to experience a live demonstration of how a well-run contest operates.

At the Awards Luncheon, keynote speaker Lawrence Thomas will inspire us as we celebrate the outstanding achievements within our district. Don’t miss this chance to connect, learn, and celebrate together! To get all of the details on this fun event, visit the Fall Fusion site.
As this is a full day, we want to ensure you don’t go hungry. Make sure that you select your meals by clicking here!

Whether you’re looking to sharpen your contest skills, explore creative endeavors, or enhance your leadership, Fall Fusion has it all! We look forward to seeing you there.

Judging and Volunteer Opportunity

Stoa, a speech and debate organization, has a student competition from October 10 – 12 at Dallas Baptist University from 7:30am – 8:00pm. They are looking for community members to serve as judges for their students, no experience necessary. They will provide a brief training, and lunch from Central Market. Each competition round will take about 2-3 hours of your time and you can sign up for a single round, or more, depending on your schedule. This is a great opportunity to mix and mingle with people outside of your club and promote our Toastmasters community, while supporting students who are sharpening their public speaking skills. If you are interested in this opportunity, you can register here.

Come on Home to District 50!

With fall comes football and homecoming. Each club that hosts a club homecoming and invites 10 prior members will receive $20.00 District 50 Bookstore Bucks!

What’s in a word?

This week’s Word of the Week is Ostentatious: Noun. /kərˈfəf(ə)l/ Definition: Characterized by vulgar or pretentious display; designed to impress or attract notice. In a sentence: “Her Ostentatious diamond necklace captured everyone’s attention at the party” Challenge: Throughout your speeches and conversations this week, try to incorporate “Ostentatious” in creative ways!

100’s of Membership Building Ideas

As all of us know, the Toastmasters community reach is far and wide! One of our Region 4 Districts (District 30, a Distinguished District in 2023-2024) shared a list of over 200 ideas on ways clubs can grow and build membership. We will be posting new ideas weekly to help with ideas that you can use to get guests and get them to become a member. We will be sharing this out in its entirety to our clubs as well. Let’s get started and grow this amazing District together! Get started on building your membership, today!

Prepare a two sided flier. One side tells all about Toastmasters, the other side gives testimonials about the organization, along with the profession of the individual. Distribute to local businesses.
Distribute flyers to Condo and Apartment Managers and ask them to give it to their tenants.
Distribute flyers to service organizations, churches, libraries, schools, and colleges – especially if there is something else they are already distributing.
Give a stack of bookmarks to a library or bookstore with club information to the library or local bookstore.
Set up a silent salesman at a grocery store or library. The silent salesman is a display case that you can set up on a table with your club promotional material in it.

We’re on the RISE!
Kimberly Ross, DTM
District 50, District Director
