Contest Season Is Here!

Often, we get comfortable speaking in front of our clubs, this is a way to really challenge yourself and level up your speaking chops.
District 50 will be having 2 contests in the spring. The Tall Tales and International speech contests are going to be a delight for us to witness and we can’t wait to listen to everyone who will be competing! Clubs should be having or already have had their Club contests or showcases to decide who will be representing them at the Area contests. Area contests begin Saturday, February 22nd, and will run through Saturday, March 15th. Winners from the Area contests will advance to the Division level contests where you will compete against others within your District 50 Division.
For more information on the contest schedule, you can visit the Contest Page on the D50 website.

A Toastmasters Promise
As a Toastmaster, we make a promise, and I thought as we jump into the back half of the Toastmasters year, we remember what this looks like, and what it means. It’s having the first value present, even when nobody is watching… Integrity. To Respect each other in all that we do, even when it may seem difficult. Serving our clubs and each other and doing it with as much Excellence as we can. Below is our promise…. I promise to continue to do my best as a member and a leader in this District.
- To attend club meetings regularly
- To prepare all of my projects to the best of my ability, basing them on the Toastmasters education program
- To prepare for and fulfill meeting assignments
- To provide fellow members with helpful, constructive evaluations
- To help the club maintain the positive, friendly environment necessary for all members to learn and grow
- To serve my club as an officer when called upon to do so
- To treat my fellow club members and our guests with respect and courtesy
- To bring guests to club meetings so they can see the benefits Toastmasters membership offers
- To adhere to the guidelines and rules for all Toastmasters education and recognition programs
- To act within Toastmasters’ core values of integrity, respect, service and excellence during the conduct of all Toastmasters activities

What’s In A Word?
This week’s Word of the Week is Momentum: Noun. Definition: The strength or force gained by motion or by a series of events. Why momentum? As we kick off the New Year, momentum is what transforms small actions into big achievements. Every speech delivered, every role taken, and every meeting attended builds momentum toward becoming a more confident communicator and leader. In a sentence: “As we start the New Year, let’s build momentum by setting clear goals for our growth in Toastmasters!”
Challenge: Incorporate the word “momentum” into your speaking this week! Whether it’s during Table Topics, your prepared speech, or an evaluation, find a way to use this powerful word.

Halfway through the Year!
This past weekend, District Trio members from all over the country gathered in Dallas Texas for mid-year training. We had a full 2 days together learning and getting inspired and excited for the second half of the year. One of the themes that we continued to come back to was our Toastmasters mission that “we build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence”. As leaders, this is our goal as well. We are invested in our members through all of the programs that the teams put together. Through club officers training, New Member Orientation, Pathways, Advance Clubs providing Leadership, Contest, and DTM mentorship as well as prospecting and growing our District by adding new clubs, we are here for it all! Rhonda, Denise, and I truly are grateful for the opportunity to serve our members.
It was fun to hear that our District is #1 in Region 4 (our region) in having the highest number of paid clubs with 20+ members! We also are tied at #3 with 2 clubs chartered. We can still make it to being a Distinguished District and you, a Distinguished Club. Continue to live our Toastmasters Promise and I hope to see you in person this Saturday the 18th at UTD.
RISE in 2025!
