Important Update on Spring Conference Registration

Dear District 50 Members,
Over the past week, I’ve received a number of calls, text messages, and emails from members expressing concerns about the price of the individual conference ticket. First, thank you. Your feedback is not only appreciated—it’s valued. We want you to know- your voices have been heard.
When we set the original pricing, we did so with one goal in mind–to remain financially responsible while delivering an exceptional conference experience. Hosting events of this scale comes with necessary expenses, and our goal has always been to cover costs—not to profit. We also made efforts to ease the financial burden by allowing the use of bookstore bucks and securing an affordable venue.
In response to your concerns, we’re pivoting and updating our payment structure to ensure more of our members can attend and enjoy the conference experience.
Here’s what’s new:
- Clubs can register for just $100 total
- A maximum of $25 in bookstore bucks may be used toward that fee
- Once a club has paid the registration fee, members of that club will NOT have to pay individually
- If your club chooses not to register, individual registration will be available at a cost of $50 per person
- Meals are still the responsibility of the individual member if you choose to enjoy a meal with us during the conference
- For all the Conference Details Visit Conference Home Page
In exchange for this reduced, flat-rate club registration model, we ask for your help in reaching our goal of 70 clubs registered. This goal is essential to ensure we can continue being financially responsible while still delivering the kind of conference experience you deserve—one filled with celebration, connection, and growth.
Let’s make this spring conference one to remember—together.
Be the Ripple!

What’s in a word?

This week’s Word of the Week is Accismus: noun.
Definition: A form of irony where someone pretends not to be interested in something they desire. In a sentence: When offered the Best Speaker ribbon, Jamie waved it off with a touch of accismus – but we all knew she was thrilled!
Toastmasters Tip: Great speakers use language intentionally – and sometimes playfully. Try using accismus in your next Table Topics response or speech to show off your rhetorical flair
Bonus points if your delivery is ironic!! Word Nerd Fact: The word comes from the Greek akkismos, meaning “affectation” or “coyness”. A little dramatic flair never hurts a speech – just don’t overdo it!
Spring is in the air!!

As our Texas weather tries to figure out if it’s wanting to flip the switch to becoming the hot summer days we all know and some people love and others detest, continue striving to be your best. Be kind to one another and give grace. I am so excited for the next month of activities. Conference is just 1 month away, and I know it will be one for the memory books! Please join us, and I can’t wait to see your faces and hear your voices as we celebrate our officers, cheer on our contestants, and grow with all of the education sessions that will be hosted for us!!
Cheers!
