Garland Toastmasters Club was chartered in 1953. They’ve been around through many changes. Perhaps they have some advice to pass along to Toastmasters in other clubs. Give them a shout and some applause.
Carl Walker, current club President, became a member because he felt wanted and needed. They have mentoring members who have been around since the mid-70s. Donna Walker, current club Vice President of Public Relations, needed to learn the confidence to speak in front of a large crowd while saying want she wanted to say.
“We laugh and make light of our mistakes and miscues within the meetings, we celebrate birthdays and anniversaries of members each month, outside the club, we meet each month with a 5th Thursday to have some food and fellowship at a local restaurant,” according to Carl. “The people and their desire to grow personally and professionally without making each other feel uncomfortable or pressured to do the same, but we hold ourselves accountable to meet the four core values in a humorous way.”
“Visitors tell us that they like the structure of our club adhering to an agenda and following Roberts Rules of Order all the while we have laughter, camaraderie, and a welcoming atmosphere,” Donna includes.
They conduct a regular club meeting from 7:00 to 8:30 P.M. on the first and third Thursdays each month at Monica Park Christian Church and via ZOOM. They welcome visitors. Check them out.
