Contest Season Is Here!

Often, we get comfortable speaking in front of our clubs, this is a way to really challenge yourself and level up your speaking chops.
District 50 will be having 2 contests in the spring. The Tall Tales and International speech contests are going to be a delight for us to witness and we can’t wait to listen to everyone who will be competing! Clubs should be having or already have had their Club contests or showcases to decide who will be representing them at the Area contests. Area contests begin Saturday, February 22nd, and will run through Saturday, March 15th. Winners from the Area contests will advance to the Division level contests where you will compete against others within your District 50 Division.
For more information on the contest schedule, you can visit the Contest Page on the D50 website.
In Case You Missed It! D50 After Dark!

District 50 has a podcast team and the last 2 episodes are extremely relevant to starting off 2025. If you missed them, don’t worry, you can still catch them.
- The Gift of Growth: A Toastmasters Christmas Special gathers all 6 of our Division Directors and what they have learned by leading within the District.
- Meet D50 newcomer and Quality Contest Chair, Bonnie Dubin. She reviews this year’s contest format, returning to 100% in person contests at the Area, Division, and District Level, and more!

What’s In A Word?

This week’s Word of the Week is Resolution: Noun. Definition: A firm decision to do or not do something. The act of solving a problem or dispute. In sentences: “As part of my New Year’s resolution, I’ve decided to complete my first Pathways project by February. OR Her resolution to overcome her fear of public speaking inspired the entire club. OR The team worked together to find a resolution to the scheduling conflict.”
Challenge: This week, incorporate the word resolution into your speeches, Table Topics responses, or evaluations. Share how resolutions—big or small—can transform your Toastmasters journey.
Speechcraft Opportunity

If your club is interested in sponsoring or assisting with a Speechcraft, please contact Club Growth Director Rhonda Bunte by Friday, January 10th. There is a scheduled Speechcraft beginning February 4, 2025 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am meeting weekly for six weeks in Dallas.

It’s A New Year!

As we kick-off and RISE in 2025, I hope that you are able to look back to 2024 and take in all that you were able to accomplish. I bet when you look at everything as a whole, it’s a lot and something you can be proud of, no matter how small or big your experiences and challenges were. I know that I am grateful for the growth and time I have had with all of you so far in this organization which allows me to build real connections. For those of you who commit to resolutions, may you be successful in the journey to keep them. While I do not create resolutions, I will be continuing to work on areas that I already have been focusing on. I want to continue the habits and experiences I have started in 2024 like swimming, work/life balance, continuing to give speeches, and visiting more of our clubs and members. This is a year that is fresh, and ready for us to make our mark. Cheers to you and all that is to come in your year!
RISE in 2025!
