What’s in a Word?

Definition: firmly loyal, unwavering, constant in belief, support, or determination. In a
Sentence: As we honor fathers and father figures—those who have guided, protected, and encouraged us with steady hands and open hearts—we challenge you to embrace and reflect on the power of being steadfast.
In a sentence: “Let’s ignite our goals and finish the Toastmasters year with purpose and passion.”
Your Challenge: Use the word “steadfast” in at least one of the following:
- A Table Topics response
- A prepared speech
- A speech evaluation
- A social media post about your Toastmasters journey or someone who’s been a steadfast influence in your life
Bonus points: Share a short tribute to someone in your life who embodies steadfastness—whether a parent, mentor, or fellow Toastmaster.
Steadfast
One of the parts of this District Director gig is that it allows me to watch, learn, and listen to everything and everyone around me. This week, writing my almost last What’s Up Wednesday newsletter, Tiffany picks the word “Steadfast”. I love this word; it’s quite powerful when you think about it. To be steadfast when it would be easier to walk away from a club, a relationship/friendship, or a role that we have agreed to play is a choice. When we choose to stay, to last, and hold true, we experience growth. My belief and view of our clubs and members has been steadfast all year. We set out on a goal to be a Distinguished District this year, and we will fall short. Some may consider this a failure or a miss on our part. However, this year we have remained true to our values of Respect, Integrity, Service, and Excellence. We have increased our connections, gained new members who are investing in themselves, and we welcomed new clubs. Most importantly, we have remained steadfast and true to each other and to what matters to us.
July 1st isn’t here just yet. You can still RISE… get that new member, give that last speech for a level completion. Now is the time to keep going, to not quit, to bolster and fuel the new year, which is just around the corner. Make a ripple today that gives a start to impact, this coming year.
Steadfastly yours,
Kimberly Ross, DTM
District 50, District Director
