Get ready for the 2021 Spring Speech Contests! Our two contest categories are:

Table Topics: A two-minute impromptu speech immediately delivered after the topic is revealed to the contestant. Speakers are sequestered until it’s their time to speak. The topic is the same for everyone. International: A five- to seven-minute speech on any subject.

Review the contest schedule to find the date of your area contest.  D50 Program Quality Director Walter Price, DTM, and Quality Contest Chair Leslie Gibeault, DTM, want you to know that area contests are in March, Division contests are in April, and the season concludes with District contests in May. All dates are posted at http://d50tm.org/contest/spring21/.

Schedule your club contest. Dedicate one of your meetings in February to your club contest. Members may compete in one or both categories. Invite your Area Director, who is a valuable resource that you may tap as you plan. Promote the contest wherever you have a web or social media presence. Having guests as part of the audience will enhance your event, and may attract new members.

Attend the Mock Contest on Friday, February 5. This is your opportunity for a sneak peek at everything that happens at a contest! Organizers will review a contest from start to finish to increase the comfort and confidence of club leaders and prospective contestants. We’ll see all of the roles in action, the order of events and successful fulfillment of all contest requirements. If you would like to participate as a role holder, Table Topic or International Speech Contestant, register on the Sign Up Genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0544AAAA29A4F58-d50mock1.

Know your resources. In addition to your Area Director:

  • Visit http://d50tm.org/contest/contest-resources for flyers, the contest rule book, Zoom master training and judges’ resources.
  • Post questions and news about your club contest on the District 50 Facebook Group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/D50Toastmasters. Our Facebook group is active and fellow Toastmasters are always eager to help. Review other discussion posts for insights and valuable tips.
  • For general questions about contests, please contact the Program Quality Director, Walter Price, DTM or Quality Contest Chair, Leslie Glbeault, DTM.

Finally, have fun and enjoy the excitement of contest season! We look forward to the competition, growth, and fellowship that happens every year.
