He was recently awarded a Presidential Citation for his efforts with Pathways.

He operates the popular Toastmasters data & statistics website, Tools for Toastmasters (www.marshalls.org/tmtools), and produces District 57’s television show, Toastmaster Time on YouTube, now in its 21st year. He has been in Toastmasters for 15 years and has earned three DTMs.

David Henderson, 2010 World Champion of Public Speaking

David Henderson is the only trial lawyer in Texas who is also a world champion public speaker. David began his law career at the prestigious law firm Vinson & Elkins (V&E) after graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 2001. At V&E, he received elite training in complex litigation. Though David liked the mental challenge of working at V&E, he liked helping people more; so, despite working long hours, David represented people who could not afford a lawyer for free. He helped so many people that the State Bar of Texas made him a member of its Pro Bono College. Although David won each case he set for trial or got them dismissed, he knew he needed two things to truly fight for his clients: more trial experience and an inside view of the criminal justice system. To get both, David joined the district attorney’s office in his hometown: San Antonio, TX.

David tried over 70 cases ranging from human trafficking to intoxication manslaughter to capital murder with great success. He joined Toastmasters International to become an expert in public speaking, and succeeded by winning Toastmasters International’s World Champion of Public Speaking in 2010 after competing against over 30,000 contestants from 113 countries. He is one of only two practicing attorneys in the world who can say that. After winning the World Championship, the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association (TDCAA) asked David to start training other prosecutors and law enforcement officers around the State. David taught at TDCAA’s Trial Skills Course and served on its faculty. He also taught courses at TDCAA’s advanced trial skills course titled Investigation & Prosecution of Intoxication Manslaughter. David quickly became one of TDCAA’s most highly rated speakers.

David enjoyed trying cases at the DA’s office, but he did not like the fact that, as a prosecutor, his job was often to condemn good people for making bad choices. One of David’s strongest skills is helping people through difficult circumstances as a counselor at law. After leaving the DA’s office, David entered private practice in Dallas, TX. When he is not working on cases, David enjoys teaching Bible classes with his wife and barbecuing as often as he can.
